Mexican Movie Star Maria Felix Dies Aged 88

MEXICO CITY Mexico's best known actress Maria Felix died at her home after suffering a heart attack, officials and media report said. She was 88.

Mexican president Vicente Fox called Felix's demise "a great loss for the artistic world," after she died Monday at one of her homes, in Cuernavaca, some 60 kilometers (36 miles) south of the Mexican capital.

Famous for her beauty and personality, Felix had spent the last 15 years of her life in Paris.

Known as "Dona" after the title of one of her most famous films, ***"Dona Barbara"***, Felix acted in 47 films, in Mexico, France, Italy, Argentina and Spain.

Her most well known films were ***"Enamorada"***, the ***"Generala"***, ***"La Cucaracha"***, ***"Rio Escondido"***.

The star's remains will lie in Mexico City's arts theater for a number of days.
